Ferries to RødbyPort connections and services

Planning a holiday in northern Europe and beautiful Denmark? Take a ferry to Rødby!

Rødby is a port town located on the island of Lolland, Denmark, in the Fehmarn belt.

The construction of the harbour began in the early 1900s, mainly for fishing and trade; it was later expanded in the 1940s to support ferry connections with Germany and in 1963 the 'Vogelfluglinie', a transport corridor between Denmark and Germany, was opened.

Today, Rødby Puttgarden is one of Europe's busiest ferry routes, and is served by the ferry company Scandlines.

Running approximately every 30 minutes throughout the 24 hours of the day, the modern and safe Rødby Puttgarden ferries also make night-time connections possible and relaxing. The crossing lasts only 45 minutes.

Passengers in transit to and from Germany pass through the ferry terminal, about 5 km from the town centre of Rødby, which has essential facilities such as a waiting room, car parks and toilets. Hotels, petrol stations, restaurants, pharmacies and shops are available on the main street that connects the centre to the port.

Rødby ferries About Rødby

A quaint harbour town on the island of Lolland, Rødby is a perfect destination for a holiday or weekend of relaxation and fun. The town is small but full of character: in the city centre you can admire the Rødby Church, granaries and merchant's farms, such as the characteristic Pakhuset, a warehouse now converted into a cultural centre.

You can relax by the Baltic Sea on one of the sandy beaches, such as the nearby Hyldtofte Østersøbad and Bredfjed Strand. If you are travelling with children, take them to the Lalandia water park, where you will find swimming pools, water games, inflatables and animation shows for the little ones. Another attraction not to be missed is the Knuthenborg Safaripark, where you can meet animals from all corners of the globe, and the Krokodile Zoo, a park dedicated to these magnificent reptiles on the neighbouring island of Falster, which fascinates young and old every year.

Discover the rest of the island of Lolland! In the town of Maribo, you can see typical half-timbered houses and neo-Gothic public buildings. In Nakskov, you will find a beautiful 13th-century church. Stroll through the streets of the centre where you can shop and sample local delicacies in the various restaurants. The nearby Nakskov Fjord is a protected natural area where you can watch swans and dolphins.

Head south and discover the coastal town of Nysted. Here, the colourful wooden houses are reflected in the water of the small harbour, the Holten Strand beach is ideal for long walks or relaxing in the sun, admiring the Baltic Sea in all its splendour. You can take a dip into the past by visiting Aalholm Castle, the oldest on the island. It was built in the 14th century, while the interior was renovated in the 18th century. Go inside, and you will be immersed in the rococo opulence of the furnishings and decorations.

Whether you are travelling with your family, your partner or your friends, you will always find a pleasant way to spend your holiday in Rødby.
