Ferries to Pianosa All the ferry companies on Mr Ferry!

Pianosa, reachable exclusively by sea, is located between the east coast of Corsica and Elba, the main island of the Tuscan archipelago, in the Tyrrhenian Sea. The island is quite small and as the name suggests, it is completely flat.

In 1856, the Grand Duchy of Tuscany established a penal colony on the island, where prisoners worked the fields, the activity of the high-security prison was stopped in 2011.

Due the many restrictions, the environment remained intact and the island was included in the Tuscan Archipelago National Park. Pianosa still offers a great variety of local fauna and flora, very well preserved, rich seabeds and interesting monuments.

Today it is possible to discover the island with an environmental guide who accompanies visitors through the Roman ruins and along the natural paths of the Macchia Mediterranea. A swim in the turquoise waters of Cala Giovanna is definitely worth it.
