Ferries to Valle Gran Rey Port connections and services
Valle Gran Rey is a small town on the island of La Gomera in the Canary Islands. After the capital San Sebastián de la Gomera, it is the second most populated municipality on the island. It owes its name to the aboriginal king Hupalupa, who led the Gomeros people in the late 15th century.
Valle Gran Rey's economy remained predominantly agricultural until the 1970s, when tourism development led to general urban redevelopment. Currently, the main driver of the island is the tertiary sector, still based on tourism, both international and from the Canary Islands themselves.
Geographically, Valle Gran Rey is located within the barranco of the same name, a gorge that runs from the highest peaks of La Gomera down to the sea. This makes road connections with the rest of the island quite complicated. Therefore, if you are planning to visit the best locations in southern La Gomera, a good idea might be to travel by ferry.
➜ Also known as Puerto de Vueltas, the port of Valle Gran Rey is connected to two other ports in La Gomera, Playa de Santiago and San Sebastián de la Gomera, on a single route run by catamaran twice a day by the company Fred Olsen Express. These departures connect the southern coast in just over an hour and allow for passenger-only boarding.
There is no ferry terminal at the port of Valle Gran Rey, but the embarkation area is close to the town, so you will find essential services, such as bathrooms, parking and car rentals, as well as bars, hotels, restaurants and stores.
