Ferries to TurkuPort connections and services

☀️Turku, formerly called 'Abo', is the second largest city in Finland and is located on the Southwest coast of the country, at the mouth of the Aurajoki River. The city was founded as an early Catholic settlement and later, after the construction of the castle and its church, was proclaimed an episcopal see.

For a long time, Turku was the political capital and the most important cultural centre of the country. Thanks to its strategic location overlooking the Baltic Sea, numerous commercial and maritime activities developed rapidly.

🚢Today, the port of Turku is an important port of call for cargo ships and ferries for vehicles and passengers. Ferries from Turku make it easy to reach the beautiful Åland Islands archipelago from the ports of Mariehamn and Langnas. Other ferry departures from Turku are also scheduled to Stockholm, the capital of beautiful Sweden.

Ferry departures to Turku are operated by the ferry company Viking Line, which offers numerous connections throughout the year.

🧳Travellers in transit at the Turku ferry terminal will find various services such as luggage storage, bars and cafeterias, toilets, parking facilities, ATMs, access ramps and assistance for guests with reduced mobility.

Turku ferries About Turku

Turku, located in the south-western Varsinais-Suomi region, is a historic Finnish city crossed by the Aurajoki River. The city of Turku, founded by the Swedes in the 12th century, was the seat of the viceroy at the time of the Kingdom of Sweden and Finland.

Old Turku was built entirely of wood, and was almost completely destroyed by fire in 1827. Later, thanks to a major project by German architect Carl Ludwig Engel, it was rebuilt in masonry north of the river, together with the famous Swedish Theatre and the Orthodox Church. On the west bank of the river are the most important tourist attractions, including the medieval stone castle with its underground dungeons and secret passages; legend has it that the ghost of Queen Hedvig Eleonora Stenbock, who died in the 17th century, still haunts these walls.

Worth a visit is the Maritime Museum, called Forum Marinum, which is housed in an old granary and traces all the most important historical events in the city. And, of course, you can't miss St. Michael's Church and the beautiful brick Cathedral, dating back to the 13th century, an important Evangelical-Lutheran place of worship; its splendid bell tower, more than 100 metres high, is the city's landmark.

Reach Luostarinmäki, an open-air museum that comes alive mainly in summer, where the typical wooden cottages, the only ones still visible, become colourful local craft shops. Finally, nature lovers can take advantage of the beautiful natural areas of the Turku Archipelago, where you can walk, cycle, pick-nick and practice various sports activities.
