Trelleborg is a town full of charm. Its name comes from a Viking ring fortress, Trelleborgen, which has recently been restored and can be visited.
It is a popular summer destination due to its unspoilt beaches surrounded by nature. Camping enthusiasts will find plenty of areas where they can camp with a tent or camper van, just a stone's throw from the sea. If you are travelling with your four-legged friend, you will find a dog-friendly beach within walking distance of the city centre. Head to the nearby Falsterbo peninsula, you'll find a long sandy beach and the Måkläppen nature reserve, where you can spot grey seals.
If you decide to go to Trelleborg, be sure to visit its centre, where you can admire historical buildings, museums, beautiful gardens and the statues of Axel Ebbe, an important local artist whose works are scattered throughout the town.
In the vicinity of Trelleborg, there are several places worth a visit. One is definitely Smygehuk, the southernmost point of the country, surrounded by pebble and light sandy beaches where you can relax while admiring nature and breathing in the Baltic Sea air. On the waterfront is a statue of a woman with an interesting story: the model who posed for it was the grandmother of the famous actress Uma Thurman. You can go see the beautiful windmill at Håslövs stubbamölla and then head to Skegrie and visit its megalithic tomb dating back to the Neolithic period.
If you want to explore nearby cities, head to Malmö, which is just over half an hour's drive away. An important port and industrial city, Malmö combines tradition and modernity and offers plenty of attractions for all visitors.
To discover more traditional Sweden, head to Lund, which has a history stretching back thousands of years. Wander the cobbled streets and visit the imposing cathedral, which features an elegant astronomical clock inside.
