Split is rich in places of interest, most are concentrated in the downtown area of the city. One of the most important and famous monuments is Diocletian's Palace, declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1979.
Another of these must-see attractions is the Cathedral of St. Domnius, which houses the mausoleum of the great Roman emperor. From its bell tower there is a breathtaking view of the city.
Not to be missed is the peristyle, the temple of Jupiter. Along the palace walls are four fortified gates. Each is named after a metal. Today all the buildings inside have become stores, bars, and restaurants.
Then head to the heart of the old town and relax in one of the bars in Popolo's Square. A walk along the waterfront, called La Riva, is the perfect place to enjoy typical Dalmatian dishes and watch the sunset.
Afterward, take a stroll through the Veli Varos neighborhood. Its medieval houses, picturesque streets and stairways make it a great place to relax.
If you want to learn a bit about Split's great history, a visit to the Archaeological Museum is a must, as it is the largest museum in Croatia.
For hiking and biking, the Marjan Hill Nature Park awaits you. Its viewpoint offers a breathtaking panorama.
Also worth mentioning are Split's sand and pebble beaches, which have been awarded the Blue Flag several times. Some of the most famous are Bacvice Beach, Trstenik Beach or Kasjuni Beach.
