A major German port city, Rostock is a perfect family destination but also great for trips with friends, and there is no shortage of things to do.

Its historical centre is characterised by important buildings in Baltic Gothic style such as the Church of St. Mary (Marienkirche), the Museum of Cultural History and the old fortress, near the lively Neuen Markt square. Also not to be missed is Rostock's main shopping street, Kröpeliner Straße, where the oldest university on the Baltic Sea is located.

If you want to take a leisurely stroll, dine in quaint cafés or relax on the beach, we recommend a trip to Warnemünde, a popular summer destination for Germans, who flock to its golden beaches by the thousands every year to enjoy the sun and sea. Don't forget to visit the old town, where old fishermen's houses, with their bright colours and traditional structure, overlook cobbled streets to wander after a busy day at the beach. Finally, climb to the top of the imposing lighthouse for a panoramic view of the entire bay.

Don't miss the surroundings of Rostock! In Schwerin, the capital of Schleswig-Holstein, you can learn about the history and tradition of this region. Here you will find the beautiful Schwerin Castle, built on a lake. Once the seat of noble rulers, today it houses the regional parliament. With its Gothic spires, elegant Renaissance façade and surrounding gardens, it looks like something out of a fairytale.
