The port of Portoferraio is the largest you will find on Elba island , and is located in the northern part of the island. It is the main port of call for scheduled ferries coming from Piombino , and its use is also closely related to cruise and recreational traffic. The port is accessible both by day and night in all weather conditions, but especially in high season it is necessary to be careful given the heavy traffic.

In high season, the shipping companies that allow connections to Piombino go as far as 100 daily runs, so you can choose the time that is most convenient for you. You can choose to sail with Moby, Toremar, BluNavy and Elba Ferries.

The port of Portoferraio got its name thanks to the Etruscans who traded iron by sea, and has three piers dedicated to ferry and hydrofoil docking, plus near the historic center the quay l'Alto Fondale allows large cruise ships to dock.

The number of ferry landings in Portoferraio is about two million a year, with traffic peaks of up to 60,000 passengers and 5,000 cars per day during peak season, but these figures are continually growing given the influx of tourists found each year.
