The port of Piombino overlooks the Tyrrhenian Sea and since Etruscan times has been a port for processing ferrous materials distributed over the Mediterranean. Since the end of the nineteenth century it has been a renowned port of call, made famous by its industrial iron and steel operations. The port of Piombino is the gateway to 'Elba Island, in fact it is considered one of the most important ports for passenger traffic.

The piers Pontile Elba, Piazzale Premuda, and Batteria are used for the departure of hydrofoils, fast craft, and passenger ferries from Piombino. The shipping companies that depart from the port of Piombino are Toremar, Moby, BluNavy, Aquavision and Corsica Elba Sardinia Ferries.

In front of Piombino's ferry berths comes the Maritime Station which provides, refreshment facilities, newsstand-bazaar, toilets, free car parking for a maximum stay of 2 hours and paid parking for long stay, both covered and uncovered. In the port area there is a reception service for the management and assistance of people with disabilities or reduced mobility called Port Abile.

Near the Piombino ferry embarkations there is an area equipped for refueling, unloading and electrical connections for campers. In front of the embarkations there are 2 parking areas, the first dedicated to short stay in front of the Maritime Station, the second for long term stay is adjacent to the Railway Terminal

In Piombino's Piazza Bovio, which dates back to the 1920s, you'll have at your disposal a splendid panoramic window on the islands; on clear days you can see Elba's island, the Island of Giglio , Capraia , and Corsica .
If, on the other hand, you wander into the city center you can see that a medieval character still persists, framed to perfection by the Clock Tower, which allows you to see a glimpse of the blue sea.
You won't be able to miss the Crivellino and the Torrione, that are the military complexes of Piombino, which you will find right at the entrance to Corso Vittorio Emanuele.
The Torrione is the oldest part of the structure, dating back to 1212, while the Crivellino was born later with the purpose of fortifying and protecting the structure from artillery attacks.

One of the most beautiful beaches is that of Salivoli, continuing you will arrive at the beach of Calamoresca.
For a route immersed in nature you can only choose the coastal path of Calamoresca-Baratti in the middle of the forest of about 4 hours.
For a stop with your family you can also visit the Sea Museum and Aquarium, a small marine exhibit that includes up to 15 tanks.

Often used only in passing, Piombino is a real discovery you can make before boarding a ferry that will take you to your favorite islands.
