Heraklion ferries About Heraklion

Heraklion is an authentic seaside town that you can visit well on foot. The oldest part is the harbor, where the center of the town is surrounded by Venetian walls. Here is the main square Plateia Venizelou where you will see the world-famous Morosini fountain built in the 17th century.

The best museums on the island of Crete are in Heraklion, especially the archaeological museum the only one in the world to hold rich collections of the Minoan civilization. During your walk to discover Heraklion, typical specialties such as cheeses, olives, and handicrafts such as carpets and leather goods can be purchased in the lively open-air market.

The best known beach in Heraklion is Ammoudara, long and sandy it can be reached comfortably on foot from the center. Other beaches include Bali with its crystal clear water, Lygaria and Agia Pelagia.
