➔With its butterfly shape and oriental air, Limnos will make you enjoy a holiday close to nature!
Located in the north of the Aegean Sea, far from the mass tourism routes, it is the perfect destination for those who love peace and tradition.
Due to its volcanic origins, it has a hilly, rather arid landscape, where wheat and grapes for the island's famous red wine are still grown. The east coast is the best place to spend a few pleasant days by the sea, sheltered from the winds, with sandy beaches and a transparent sea full of fish. The island is famous for the legend of the god Vulcan, who married the beautiful Aphrodite and taught the inhabitants to work with bronze.
➔The city of Kavala, located in the northern part of the Aegean Sea, is a city surrounded by mountains, the most important of which is Mount Pangeo, where the Monastery of Panagia was built; in fact the city was the centre of the Christian religion.
Another place of interest is the Church of Nea Karvali, an Orthodox place of worship that houses the relics of St Gregory. The centre of the town is crossed by the impressive Karmares aqueduct. On your walk you will also find the Archaeological Museum, which houses artefacts from ancient Amfipoli.
One of the most important buildings is the Ottoman castle. Among the streets of the town you can see the old tobacco warehouses and taverns serving local seafood. The beaches, both sand and pebble, you can find them all over the city.
