Viking Line All departures and offers on MrFerry!
In 1959, the S/S Viking ferry of the Vikinglinjen Ab company, founded by Captain Gunnar Eklund in the Åland Islands, crossed the Baltic Sea for the first time. In the following years, the cooperation between the companies Vikinglinjen Ab, Rederi AB Slite, Ålandsfärjan Ab and Oy Viking Line Ab started a new era of vehicle and passenger transport between the Finnish mainland, the Åland Islands and Sweden.
Although these new connections were initially viewed with skepticism, they soon proved to be an excellent travel option. While until then goods had only been transported between Sweden and Finland by land, ferry trips were very long and expensive, and vehicle boarding difficulties were considerable, Viking Line's new routes finally made the movement of goods, vehicles and passengers faster and cheaper.
In 1960, the company moved its destination port to Kapellskär, and in 1963 the route between Marienhamn and Kapellskär was established. In 1970, the shipping company purchased three new ships, which for the first time were designed to offer plenty of space for transporting vehicles and were equipped with all the comforts to ensure passengers a pleasant journey.
Today, Viking Line ferries take you comfortably to the main Baltic ports in Estonia, Finland, Sweden and the Åland Islands.
