The shipping company Snav, (Società Navigazione Alta Velocità) was founded in 1956 under the name of Società Aliscafi s.p.a by a private shipping group. The first line activated was the service on the Strait of Messina, with the Snav hydrofoil "La freccia del Sole", and later with the "Freccia delle Eolie" and the "Freccia del Tirreno".

In 1958 the name of the company is changed to Snav (Società Navigazione Alta Velocità). Later, the shipping company tries to expand the fleet and sail new routes, first to the Adriatic Sea and then to the Tyrrhenian Sea in Sardinia and the Gulf of Naples.

In 1995, with the arrival of Gianluigi Aponte, the company was transformed into a joint stock company, Snav S.p.A. From that moment on, the fleet and the routes underwent a significant renewal. In 2000, new Snav connections to Croatia were activated.

Today a fleet of 1 fast and comfortable hydrofoil, 5 catamarans and 2 ferries guarantees daily connections to the major Mediterranean islands such as Ischia, Procida, Capri and the Pontine Islands (Ponza and Ventotene).

Moreover, during the summer season, additional Snav routes are guaranteed to the Aeolian Islands and Croatia, offering fast travel and maximum comfort during the crossing.

Snav shipping company has a large fleet, each ship is equipped on board with easy access for disabled guests, areas for pets, comfortable and air-conditioned lounges, recliners and even comfortable accommodation and catering services for long trips.

Snav hydrofoils and ferries are regularly subjected to careful maintenance by specialized personnel who make the boats reliable and safe.
